Recognition and Community

The need for recognition is very real. That is what implores some of us to write, to create. To be recognized is to be part of a community, a rising out of the anonymity we also face.

Recognition can be a double edged sword that quickly turns into a distraction. But even

though that danger exists, many of us seek it. Why else use Medium if not for recognition?

Communities are now available in ways that were not possible a short time ago.

Granted, there are these who still feel lonely, but there are many more who have found what they were looking for: someone to listen.

It’s only once one is listened to that they get the very real sense that they are recognized.

They are heard.
