Travel may be one of the most beneficial activities for a writer.
Stories are about people. The writer must ask themselves: Who are they? What do they do? Who do they love? What do they hate? Where do they see themselves in their world?
Travel, especially to places where the population speaks a different language, gives the writer a different perspective not only on where they are traveling but also where they are coming from.
Everything is new. Everything is fresh. Those eyes, accustomed to familiar sights, are suddenly bombarded with novelty.
Bringing that feeling of novelty to the reader is an accomplishment all writers should strive for.
